Moien! and welcome to The Wireless: An hour long eclectic audio-collage, showcasing some of the new music talent in Ireland, in both music & spoken word.
It’s aired here at Radio ARA on the second Saturday in the month at 16:00 (ECT).
There are a few guest interviews planned for 2025, and so far we have enjoyed the company of musicians; Cian Dahdouh about his band Bucket; Danny Groenland; John Hegarty; Eoin O’Halloran who is also a founding member of The Dublin Jazz Co-op, Clare Tuffy; manager of the visitor centre at megalithic monument Newgrange in county Meath; and lastly on this list, though not least; Fit-Up Theatre Festival director Geoff Gould, all of whom have very kindly spoken to us about their work and interesting ventures.
As I prepare for my next show, I can tell you of how musical interests keep me busy and informed.
It’s great to keep in touch with current music releases, I hint at some of the forums which help at that on air. Friends and family listen to their own music choices, and I often hear about new music, which I might not easily come across, only for chatting to them about music.
I also do a small amount of work with youth projects. When on our coffee break at tech sessions using recording hardware and DAWS (digital audio workstations), participants share new music which they have recently picked up or come across on music platforms, whether it’s a release or not.
Funnily, there are always tracks which a few of us end up humming by the end of a day, from those new track shares and over the last few years we have made some really fantastic discoveries this way, I have given some of those tunes a spin on the show.
Sometimes we have the radio on … a great source of discography discovery.
