About this Episode
Hark, what most wondrous news is this? The Shakespeare Schools Festival is on again this February 5th and 6th, and has grown and now includes school theatre groups from Cyprus, Belgium, France and the UK as well as St. George’s and Michel Lucius from Luxembourg and the New World Theatre Club’s youth group.
Drama teacher Clare Williams spearheaded this initiative five years ago, and continues to get her kids at St. George’s enthused about the Bard and about performing on stage. The festival presents short versions of Shakespeare’s plays, adapted and revised and often given a modern, fun twist like the addition of modern slang and inclusion of modern music. Where else will you get to see nine Shakespeare plays in two nights, and encourage young people to tread the boards and discover that all the world’s a stage?
Clare talks about the 2025 Festival with two young actors – Charlotte, who plays Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and Alexei, who plays Caliban in the Tempest.
The Festival takes place at the Abbey Neumunster. Go to the St. George’s website, https://www.st-georges.lu for tickets and more information.
